ZLYTR20 vs ZLYTR22: Which Speed Radar Fits Your Road?

Table of Contents

traffic Speed Radar Sensor

If your project needs longer detection distance, a narrower beam, and higher speed measurement up to 320 km/h, choose ZLYTR22.
If your project needs wider road coverage, compact size, lower current consumption, and easier integration for multi-lane speed warning, choose ZLYTR20VD.

Both are 24GHz millimeter-wave speed radars designed for moving vehicle detection, road speed warning, curve warning, intersection warning, and intelligent traffic safety systems. But they are not made for the same type of road scenario.

The real difference is simple:

ZLYTR20VD sees wider. ZLYTR22 sees farther.

Why This Comparison Matters

For traffic radar projects, choosing a speed sensor is not only about detection distance. A radar that works well on a wide urban road may not be the best choice for long-range warning before a highway curve. A radar designed for a narrow, focused detection zone may provide cleaner speed data at longer distances, but it may not be ideal when the customer wants to cover multiple lanes with one sensor.

That is why ZLYRADAR offers two different 24GHz radar options: ZLYTR20VD and ZLYTR22.

They look similar at first glance, but their application logic is different.

ZLYTR20VD: Wide Coverage for Practical Road Speed Warning

ZLYTR20VD is a 24GHz speed radar designed for long-distance vehicle speed measurement over 180 meters. It integrates a microstrip antenna, RF circuit, and signal processing circuit, directly outputting target speed information.

Its biggest advantage is its wide antenna coverage.

With a horizontal antenna angle of ±20° and pitch angle of ±8°, ZLYTR20VD can cover a wider detection area. In practical road projects, this makes it suitable for speed warning applications where the radar needs to monitor a broader road section, such as urban roads, county roads, school zones, parking entrances, industrial parks, and multi-lane warning signs.

ZLYTR20VD supports RS485 and TTL serial port output, with a baud rate of 9600bps. Its speed measurement range is 1 km/h to 240 km/h, making it suitable for most city roads and general traffic safety applications.

Another important advantage is its compact size. The sensor size is only 69 × 53 × 5 mm, with working current around 50mA at 12V. For customers who need a smaller, lower-power radar module for integration into speed display signs or warning equipment, ZLYTR20VD is a very practical choice.

ZLYTR20

ZLYTR22: Narrow Beam, Longer Distance, Higher Speed Range

ZLYTR22 is a 24GHz narrow-wave velocity measurement radar. Compared with ZLYTR20VD, it is built for a more focused and longer-distance detection zone.

Its detection distance reaches up to 300 meters, and its speed measurement range is 2 km/h to 320 km/h. This makes it more suitable for high-speed roads, highways, long straight roads, road curves, and locations where earlier vehicle detection is required.

The key feature of ZLYTR22 is its narrow horizontal beam. Its antenna angle is 7° horizontal and 28° vertical, which means the radar focuses energy into a narrower road area. In many projects, this helps reduce unnecessary side detection and makes the radar more suitable for targeted lane monitoring.

ZLYTR22 supports RS485 and RS232 interfaces, also with a 9600bps baud rate. It has a larger PCBA size of 105 × 85 × 13 mm, and its working current is around 70mA at 12V.

If the customer needs longer detection distance, higher speed range, and more focused detection, ZLYTR22 is the stronger option.

The Most Important Difference: Wide Beam vs Narrow Beam

Many customers only ask: “Which radar detects farther?”

But a better question is:

Do you need to detect a wider road area or a longer road distance?

ZLYTR20VD has a wider horizontal detection angle, making it a better choice when the radar needs to cover a broader road section. It is useful when the installation environment is flexible and the customer wants one radar to detect vehicles across a wider range.

ZLYTR22 has a narrower horizontal beam and longer detection distance. It is better when the project needs a more focused detection area, such as one direction, one target lane, or a long-distance warning point before a curve, intersection, or high-speed road section.

In simple words:

Choose ZLYTR20VD for wider coverage. Choose ZLYTR22 for longer and more focused detection.

Which Radar Should You Choose?

Choose ZLYTR20VD if your project needs:

  • A compact radar module
  • Lower current consumption
  • Wide-angle vehicle detection
  • Speed measurement for urban roads or ordinary roads
  • Integration with RS485 or TTL serial port
  • Detection distance over 180 meters
  • Multi-lane speed warning or speed display signs

ZLYTR20VD is the cost-effective and integration-friendly option for general traffic safety projects.

Choose ZLYTR22 if your project needs:

  • Longer detection distance up to 300 meters
  • Higher speed range up to 320 km/h
  • Narrower beam for focused detection
  • Better suitability for high-speed roads
  • RS485 or RS232 communication
  • Targeted lane speed measurement
  • Early warning before curves, intersections, and long road sections

ZLYTR22 is the better choice when distance and directional focus matter more than wide coverage.

Application Scenarios

Both radars can be used for:

  • Speed warning signs
  • Highway speed detection
  • Urban traffic speed monitoring
  • Road curve warning
  • Intersection warning
  • School zone speed reminder systems
  • Smart road safety equipment
  • Vehicle-triggered warning systems

However, their best-fit scenarios are different.

For city roads, entrances, school roads, and wider detection areas, ZLYTR20VD is often easier to apply.

For highways, longer-distance warning, and more directional speed detection, ZLYTR22 provides stronger long-range performance.

Final Recommendation

ZLYTR20VD and ZLYTR22 are not simply “small model” and “large model.” They are designed for different project needs.

ZLYTR20VD is the wide-coverage choice.
It is compact, low-power, and suitable for many practical road speed warning systems.

ZLYTR22 is the long-distance focused choice.
It offers longer detection distance, higher speed range, and a narrower beam for more directional road monitoring.

For customers, the best choice depends on the road environment:

If the road is wide and the installation distance is moderate, choose ZLYTR20VD.
If the road requires earlier detection and a more focused beam, choose ZLYTR22.
